How to Use MIDI and Protocols

 

Turning on the MIDI switch on the MIDI/OSC screen will enable MIDI. All paths and MIDI channels are received. When a MIDI message is received, the small circle to the left of the MIDI switch will blink.

 

MIDI Note On Messages

Note Number: Hue

Velocity: Brightness (0: Off - 127: Maximum Brightness)

A Note On message will cause the LEDs to light up. The note numbers will be treated as hues. C is red in any octave. Colors cycle around the color wheel in 12 half tones. Velocity is treated as the brightness. 127 will set the brightness to maximum, while 0 will turn the light off.

 

MIDI Note Off Messages

Turns the LEDs off.

 

MIDI Control Change

Control Number 1 (Modulation): Color Saturation (0: Maximum Saturation - 127: Minimum Saturation)

Adjusts the LED color saturation.

 

MIDI Control Change

 

Control Number 5 (Portamento Time): Transition Time (0: 0.0 sec - 127: 4.0 sec)

Control Number 65 (Portamento Switch): Transition Setting (0-63: Enabled, 64-127: Disabled)

Sets the transition time for changing to the specified color.

 

MIDI Control Change

 

Control Number 16 (General Purpose Controller 1): Hue (0: Minimum - 127: Maximum)

Control Number 17 (General Purpose Controller 2): Color Saturation (0: Minimum - 127: Maximum)    

Control Number 18 (General Purpose Controller 3): Brightness (0: Minimum - 127: Maximum)

Configures lights for the specified hue, saturation, and brightness.

 

How to Use OSC and Protocols

1. Connect the Mac or iPhone that will be sending and the iPhone running the FUN'IKI Glasses app to the same Wi-Fi network.

2. Turn on the OSC switch.

3. Check the IP address on the MIDI/OSC screen.

4. Send the command in the following format from the sending device to the IP address you confirmed.

/fun-iki/perform <Left Hue> <Left Saturation> <Left Brightness> <Right Hue> <Right Saturation> <Right Brightness> <Transition Time>

Left Hue, Left Saturation, Left Brightness: Specifies the color for the left lens in HSB format. The specified values must be real numbers between 0.0 and 1.0.

Right Hue, Right Saturation, Right Brightness: Specifies the color for the right lens in HSB format. The method for specifying values is the same as for the left lens.

Transition Time: Specifies the transition time until changing to the specified color. The specified value must be between 0.0 seconds and 655.34 seconds with a resolution of 0.01 seconds.

 

For example, sending the following packet will immediately make the left side bright red and the right side dark blue.

/fun-iki/perform 0.0 1.0 1.0 0.666 1.0 0.5 0.0

 

If you send the following packet, the light for both lenses will slowly fade over 2 seconds.

/fun-iki/perform 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 2.0

 

Repeatedly sending OSC packets may result in a delay in changing colors. This happens when the iPhone cannot keep up with the transmissions from the FUN'IKI Glasses. In order to maintain good responsiveness, leave an interval of 200 msec between sending OSC messages. MIDI has the same limitations.
